The Imo state chairman of the Veterinary Medical Association of Nigeria, Dr. Roland Ariri was on a live phone-in radio program today to reassure the people of Owerri and the entire state about the preparedness of the association and the state government to ensure the bird flu virus that has reemerged in the country doesn’t cause any public health situations in the state.

He and other visitors to the radio program said that the situation required vigilance and concerted efforts from everyone to ensure nothing happens. He therefore enjoined citizens of the state to be observant and to report any suspected cases to a professional veterinary doctor or the state Directorate of Veterinary Services.

He also said people can go ahead and eat chicken so long as it it properly cooked.
