Online learning popularly called MOOC (massive open online course) is really gaining grounds in various parts of the world and Nigeria is not left behind in this efforts to effectively use the internet to distribute unrestricted access to quality education.

Around 2012, a young Nigerian called Gossy Ukanwoke launched the Beni American University which brings over 10,000 learning resources from over 200 countries across the globe and lets Nigerians access them online.

MTN is also towing that line with the introduction and kickoff of their MLearning Academy, a platform will enable people to freely register, and use their numerous online courses to learn and develop themselves.

While the Youtube Ad made it look like they are focused on only secondary school subjects, the website has quite a collection of learning resources for different categories and levels of people.

With the wide penetration of smart mobile phones and internet even among secondary school students, the initiative will help supplement the efforts of teachers in schools and also improve the already dwindling poor performance of most students during examinations. This will only happen if they make judicious use of these resources and their time.

The population of secondary school students in Owerri and Imo State generally, is quite large. You will appreciate this whenever they dismiss from their extra mural classes in the afternoons. It will be a very welcome development if their parents can turn their attention away from the other side of the internet which definitely distract them from their studies and help them gain access to these online learning resources.

The internet has come to stay and we either use it to make our children better or it will definitely mar them.

To use the service, visit their website www.mlearningacademy.com and register for free.
