IHS Towers, leading independent mobile telecommunications Infrastructure Company recently commissioned a bespoke complex to house the Nekede/Ihiagwa Divisional Police Command in Owerri, Imo State. The company also renovated the Ohuhu Ekwuru Community Primary School, Ohuhu, Abia State.
Speaking during the commissioning, General Manager, IHS, Mr. Jimoh Umoru said that the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility stems from the belief that IHS is part of the communities in which it operates. “We are passionate about improving the quality of education in Nigeria and are
pleased to partner with government and communities toward providing a more conducive learning environment to breed future leaders,” he said.
Following the company’s intervention, Ohuhu Ekwuru Community Primary School now has blocks of renovated classrooms, a borehole, and toilets. Speaking during the commissioning, Headmistress, Ohuhu Ekwuru Community Primary School, Mrs. Flora Otunoye thanked IHS for their generosity, saying that this
is the first time in the history of the community that a private organization has donated such critical infrastructure to the community.
On his part, Commissioner of Police, Imo State, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, who commissioned the station, also applauded IHS for building an exquisite edifice that will encourage members of the Nigerian police force to serve and perform their duties in securing the lives and properties of the indigenes.
In his response, Mr. Umoru said security of life and property is critical to the growth and development of any state. “We are thrilled to be part of efforts geared towards enhancing the security of Nekede and the surrounding communities,” he added.
Investing in the communities in which it operates is a fundamental aspect of IHS’s identity and values. It will be recalled that IHS has in the past renovated a police station in Bariga, Lagos State, and awarded scholarships to indigent students in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It also constructed culvert drainage to mitigate the effect of flooding in the Ughele community, Ondo State, amongst other initiatives.
