Friday the 1st of September was a night to remember as the annual Odenigbo lectures celebrated its 22nd edition with a variety night. The atmosphere around the venue was very lively as many groups performed. The lecture is organized yearly by the Owerri Diocese Archdiocese under the leadership of the Most Rev. Anthony A.J.V Obinna and has had many notable Nigerians as guest lecturers including Prof Chinua Achebe and Prof Dora Akunyili both of blessed memory.
The lecture proper took place on the second day with the theme ‘Uwadiegwu: Nma na Ụjọ Ndị Igbo’.
Speaking to AlaOwerri.com, the director of Media and communication services at Assumpta Cathedral, Rev. Fr. George Nwachukwu explained that the topic seeks to address aspects of the Igbo culture that make up the identity of the Igbo man (Nma) and the issues that threaten the stability of the Igbo culture (Ujo). The lecture also tackled the issue of the ‘Osu’ caste system and had Most Rev. John Okoye was the guest lecturer.
The programme had many dignitaries in attendance including Catholic and non-Catholic faithful.
